S1-3 Broad General Education
All pupils from S1-S3 participate in a wide range of physical activities. Through these activities, pupils are taught to apply movement skills and develop competencies and concepts, participate cooperatively and in competition, and develop their ability to evaluate and appreciate. In addition, within each team and individual activity pupils’ cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills will be developed.
S3 Elective
The Physical Education elective course aims to prepare learners for the National Qualifications in PE. We aim to develop the learners skill repertoire and knowledge ina variety of sports, as well as taking them through a cycle of analysis.
National 3
The National 3 Physical Education Course provides learners with the opportunity to develop basic movement and performance skills, improve aspects of fitness, and develop personal and interpersonal skills in familiar contexts. Furthermore, it encourages learners to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding, capabilities and attributes that are required to enhance their mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing, and to sustain an active and healthy lifestyle.
National 4
The National 4 Physical Education Course provides learners with the opportunity to develop, demonstrate and improve movement and performance skills. The central theme of the Course is to develop approaches to enhance performance through monitoring and reflection as well as develop and demonstrate knowledge of factors impacting on performance.
National 5
The National 5 Physical Education course enables pupils to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to perform effectively in a range of physical activities and enhance their physical wellbeing. Pupils work both individually and co-operatively to develop thinking and interpersonal skills. This makes PE an ideal platform for developing confidence, resilience, responsibility and the ability to work with others.
Higher
This course gives pupils the opportunity to develop and enhance their movement and performance skills. They develop knowledge and understanding and apply this to the analysis and evaluation of performance in physical activities. Pupils develop their thinking skills through planning, problem solving and analysing performance.
Level 5 & 6 Leadership
The Leadership Award develops knowledge of leadership skills, styles and qualities. It is designed for learners who take, or plan to take, a leading role in their activities. Available at SCQF Levels 5 and 6, the Award allows individuals to build self confidence and self esteem and encourages learners to respect the cultures and beliefs of others working alongside them.
