Message for students
Hundreds of people each year take on the railway and lose. The railway’s full of hidden dangers. If you’re not hit by an unexpected train you’ll be hit by the lethal current in rails and power lines. Stepping onto the track at any time or in any circumstance is dangerous. 25,000 volts of electricity can jump from overhead cables, the electrified third rail looks just like an ordinary rail, and modern trains can almost silently reach speeds of 125mph. If you are drunk at a railway station or near the tracks, you're heightening the risk that you will end up unintentionally taking on the railway. You will be killed or left with catastrophic, life-changing injuries. And your friends and family will be left with the brutal consequences. Everyone loses when you underestimate this opponent. Everyone loses when you step on the track. Message for parents As lockdown eases and the school holidays approach, we’re expecting trespassing to increase. If children and young people are drunk at a railway station or near the tracks, they’re heightening the risk that they will end up unintentionally getting injured on the railway. For this reason, we are urging parents to check in with their children as the summer holiday approach. Do your teens know the devastating consequences of stepping on the tracks? Make sure your teens know that trespass can have life-changing consequences by showing them the film at https://www.youvstrain.co.uk/ Stepping onto the track at any time or in any circumstance is dangerous. 25,000 volts of electricity can jump from overhead cables, the electrified third rail looks just like an ordinary rail, and modern trains can almost silently reach speeds of 125mph. Last night we hosted an information evening for our incoming S1s. This is particularly important this year as we can't have a transition week. The attached document gives all the details outlined at the event.

The boys presentation was fantastic and they received some excellent feedback which we wanted to share. Douglas Hutchison really liked our whole school approach about how we are becoming a more sustainable school with our reusable facemasks and water bottles. He also liked how we want to speak to architects to plant more trees/plants and how it is a great opportunity to shape our new build school and reduce emissions. The Provost said she really liked how we were the only school to identify and brand ourselves as becoming sustainable (very novel of us) and that we have ambitious plans but to continue thinking big. The boys are very proud of themselves with huge smiles behind their masks in the photo! |
WelcomeA very warm welcome to our website. Carrick Academy is one of eight secondary schools within South Ayrshire which is located in south west Scotland. |
