The Pupil Support department aims to support all pupils according to individual need. This support can take a number of different forms: literacy interventions, numeracy interventions, one-to-one support, speech and language therapy, Nurture, Seasons for Growth, Prince’s Trust Achieve, Pets as Therapy, Personal Development, creative inclusion, Draw & Talk therapy, LIAM (Low Intensity Anxiety Management) and senior work experience.
We offer a safe and welcoming space for all pupils during break and lunch times whether they want somewhere quiet to sit with friends or staff or make use of computers for homework/private study.
Our role is to ensure that pupils get the support they need whether this is an extended transition in P7 to prepare them for S1, support with learning, help with applications, interviews, visits to college or independent travel preparing for life after Carrick.
There will be times when pupils require support to complete assessments and exams and this will be planned with individuals on a subject by subject basis to ensure that pupils can complete them equitably. Assistive technology may be used and we will identify these pupils early in their school career and provide them with access to resources so that they become competent users. Common technologies include the use of ICT or iPads, Read & Write and speech to text software.
