Recently we have been consulting pupils, parents/carers and staff on our school dress code. Our aim is that all young people wear a uniform they are proud of and makes them feel part of ‘Team Carrick’. The uniform should inspire a feeling of togetherness and create a professional learning environment. It should be inclusive and reduce inequality amongst our young people. We have gradually observed a slip in the standard of dress pupils are wearing to school. There has been an increase in the number of young people wearing items of clothing that don’t clearly identify them as a Carrick Academy pupil. The main issues we are experiencing are the wearing of hoodies, tracksuit/jogging bottoms, leggings and caps. We firmly believe that wearing a formal school uniform has a number of benefits which are detailed in the documents below.
Yesterday, our judges adjudicated the performances for our Young Performer competition. The winner of this round progresses to a South Ayrshire competition in April, and this then progresses to Glasgow in May.
We had 14 outstanding entries from pupils across the school, representing all year groups and houses. The overall winner was Ela Herdman; followed by Thomas Purdie in 2nd place and David Kidd in 3rd. I'm sure you'll help me congratulate these young people in their success! Our Easter School programme is now complete. For more information, talk to your teachers. Click images to enlarge.

Our students, Thomas Purdie and Eden Wallace, did a great job in representing the school and indeed Scotland, in the recording which was produced by BAFTA and organised by Place2Be.
